Guitar Tricks (GuitarTricks) was born 10 years ago because of the frustration Jon Broderick experienced while trying to find a place to learn the instrument he loved and to hone his skills. A quick tour around the site, to include 4 introductory videos, gives you a sneak peak of what the site is about.
Anyone is invited to create a profile and take advantage of 24 free lessons provided by 12 well versed, capable instructors. Electric or acoustic enthusiasts are welcome. Lessons are demonstrated with specific detail via video, that can be repeated by section or in their entirety. Written sheet music with chord charts are shown on the same page beneath the video. Lessons can be downloaded as well. The free lessons range in skill from extreme beginner to advanced. Techniques for learning multiple music genres, from rock to country to classical, are offered.
A membership is offered, payable monthly ($14.95) to annually ($129.00). Members have the option of paying by credit card, PayPal or personal check. Guitar tricks does offer a full refund if a client is not satisfied. There is no minimum or maximum length of time to belong to the site. Quit anytime or stay as long as you like. The site is available 24/7.
Once a full member, the student has the opportunity to start learning with the very basics, from picking up the guitar ,to tuning, scales, and how to use a pick. There are 2 beginner fundamental sections all are invited to view, if merely to have a quick review. Once acquainted with the basics students can progress in any number of the various music genres. 3000 lessons are offered so far with more being added on a routine basis.
Recently added is a licensed song lesson area filled with popular songs, whereby students can master their favorites. A jam station with 150 tracks is available to play along with or mimic. A general forum and instructor bios are provided. Links to song lyric sites, guitar gear and contests are visible at the bottom of the home page. A link for lessons to play like Jimi Hendrix, John Mayer, or B.B. King ( to name a few) is also readily available.

The site is all inclusive for learning everything guitar from the very basics to the extremely advanced. Unlike traditional music lessons, this site can be accessed as often as desired. Lessons can be repeated as frequently as necessary. Being self paced, students can take their time or progress very quickly. The lessons are very detail orientated and presented in such a way that they are very easy to understand. The wide selection of music genres coupled with the progression of lessons, will keep a student enthused for a long period of time. The site is quite affordable for all that it offers.
Cons
Unfortunately the 24 free lessons are really just a teaser. Advanced players may pick up a trick or two, but for someone just starting, a membership is necessary.
